Umang ‘22

On April 12, Tuesday, Lady Shri Ram College for Women saw its very first post- pandemic event— Umang ‘22, the Intra college fest celebrating resistance, resilience and rejuvenation. A cultural event by the Students’ Union, the day was filled with dance, music, food, and extraordinary performances.

The main event day was preceded by a series of pre-fest events. Flash mobs and jamming sessions were conducted by the Students’ Union and colourful and creative posters were put all across the campus. The dress code for the fest was traditional attire and the campus lit up with students adorned in their interpretation of traditional wear. There were special food stalls put up with a variety of cuisines.

The fest opened with the Principal’s Address followed by Students’ Union President and Cultural Secretary’s Welcome Address. A number of performances by the societies and cells of the college were then held in the auditorium, opened by “Aaghaaz”, an Indian Classical and Western fusion piece by Saaz, the Instrumental Society of LSR. The lineup post this included the Senior Group Dance by the DanceSoc, Poetry Drama by Expressions and Abhivyakti, a Group Song by the North-East Cell, and many other performances including an open mic, more dances and songs and dramas. The concluding performance of the day was a Nukkad Natak by the DramSoc, which was shown in the amphitheater.

All the while the performances were going on, there were also stalls put up in the campus by the student societies. Project Campus Care by NSS held a Bake Sale, Project Aaghaz also put up a stall to support our causes of sustainability and women empowerment by showcasing beautiful scrunchies, tote bags, pretty bandanas, belts and pouches to choose from.

Multiple cells also did Sustainability Swaps, where students brought their accessories, books and other beloved possessions to swap them with similar possessions held by other students. Amongst other exhibitions,, there were tattoo stalls, Embroidery workshop, sticker and bookmark distribution, photo booths, book exchange events, karaoke, etc.

The decor team of the Student Union did an extraordinary job in decorating the campus in an Eco friendly way and by reusing and upcycling various materials for decor.
