North East Cell

The North East Cell seeks to provide  a safe space to discuss and share members’ experiences and encourages them to explore and express themselves.The second year of North East Cell after its re-establishment in 2021 was quite eventful. The Cell kickstarted the academic year by performing exceptionally well in its first visit by the NAAC on 13th July 2022. This was followed by an online webinar on 12th September, 2022 entitled “Career Paths After Graduation: A Career Counselling for UG Students” in collaboration with IQAC-LSR. The three speakers: Dr. Nehkholen Haokip (Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Shyam Lal College), Ms. Akanksha Phukan (Alumna of LSR) and Prof. Kanika Ahuja (Professor, Department of Psychology, LSR) enlightened the students on the government/public sector, pursuing academics abroad and leveraging LinkedIn for jobs in the private sector respectively. Following this, an offline session on writing Statement of Purpose (SoP) for pursuing Masters in foreign HEIs was organised on 17th November 2022. The resource person for this event was Ms. Nibedita Hatibaruah.She is an alumnus of LSR. She completed her masters in Development Studies from TISS and then Master of Public Policy LSE. Currently, she is working in the space of Foundations and Philanthropy for social impact and also provides mentorship for higher educational opportunities and scholarship programmes.

On 15th December 2022, a formal orientation was organised for the first-year students, where they were acquainted with the functioning of the cell and introduced to the coordinators of the Cell. This was followed by an informal interaction with the Freshers on 3rd February 2023. The staff advisors and the coordinators interacted with all students. The Cell also participated for the first time in the Annual Cultural fest of LSR, Tarang in March 2023. A food stall selling food from Northeast was set up during the 3-day fest. On the 2nd day of Tarang, members of the cell performed a musical dance drama titled “Echoes of the East” showcasing the culture and diversity of the region.On 26th April 2023, North East Cell of LSR had its first Annual Academic and Cultural Meet, Orion on the theme of “Revisiting Folklore and Oral Narratives of Northeast in the Contemporary Times”. The Inaugural Ceremony was graced by the presence of the special guest, Mr. Armstrong Pame (IAS). He is an IAS officer of the Manipur Cadre from 2009 Batch. He is famously known as the “Miracle Man” for creating a 100 km road connecting Manipur to Nagaland and Assam. He is currently the Director at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The speakers for the Academic Panel Discussion on the theme were Dr. Achingliu Kamei (Associate Professor at the Department of English, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, DU) and Dr. AC Kharingpam (Assistant Professor at the Department of English, Jamia Millia Islamia). These segments were followed by competitions and performances. The members of the cell also participated in various inter-college dance competitions and won prizes at various events. A dance group representing the Cell at the NE Cell of Satyawati College won the first prize and handed over the trophy to the Principal, Prof. Sharma on 18th of April 2023.

Our college has a united forum for periodical deliberations on issues and concerns related to students from the North-East region and also to give students from the NE due representation in the college. These concerns may be related to a variety of matters including adapting to Delhi and the demands of college life. This forum also strives to promote awareness and celebrate the region’s unique and magnificent cultures.
