The endeavour at LSR remains to foster life-long learning that embraces the ideals of social justice, equity and inclusivity. Several initiatives have been taken to ensure that students with disability can access facilities provided by the college. All the buildings are equipped with ramps for wheel chair access, hand rails and elevators. Wash rooms for differently-abled students are available both in the college and the Residence Hall. Important notices are put up in Braille. There is also a ‘buddy system’ through which students of the LSR community extend support to peers with disability, if needed.
Special scholarships and other financial support schemes facilitated by LSR and our alumna along with services provided by the placement cell extend further support to students with disabilities.
In collaboration with the KPMG Foundation, the college has set up a Resource centre Swavalamban for visually challenged students to ensure accessibility to study material and provide special learning aids. The entrance to the Resource Centre has tactile flooring and there is a proposal to create a tactile pathway linking the buildings and Resource Centre.
REACH, the Equal Opportunities Cell of the college works in close collaboration with the Equal Opportunity Cell of DU, to ensure that students have access to reading material, laptops and other recording devices provided by the University. REACH organises workshops on computer skills, soft skills and entrepreneurship and invites motivational speakers to encourage students to pursue their dreams.
The college also works with the National Association of the Blind to provide resource persons to help map the campus and impart specialised mobility training.
