Faculty Program on ‘Role of ICT in Teaching and Research’

A full day workshop was organized by IQAC-LSR on 31st August, 2019 for the faculty of the college on the ‘Role of ICT in Teaching and Research.’ The primary objective of the sessions was to provide faculty members a comprehensive understanding of the introductory and advanced technology tools that can be effectively used for teaching, research and data analysis. The sessions were designed to enable the faculty to upgrade their teaching and research skills and to develop competence in integrating technology into the teaching-learning process and effectively guide their own research and students’ research work.

The event began with a welcome address by Principal Dr. Sharma who also introduced the key note speaker, Prof. M.M Pant (Former vice-chancellor, IGNOU). Prof. M.M Pant spoke on the ‘Role of Artificial Intelligence and links it’s with Education’. He succinctly explained the meaning and nature of artificial intelligence. He also spoke of how the parameters of learning had changed. He defined ‘learning power’ as the ability to do things we have not been trained for. Hence it is about using what one has learnt, to accomplish a task for which one has not learnt enough. This engaging session was followed by a tea break. The next interaction was with Mr. Neeraj Aarora, a practising advocate and cyber security expert. His talk titled ‘Nuisances of the Cyber World’ addressed the current security threats of the on-line world. He discussed international and national cases of hacking, identity theft and credit card misuse. He also provided strategies on how an individual or an institution may protect themselves from security threats of this kind.

Two sessions post lunch were taken by Dr. Geetanjali Sahi. She has rich experience of teaching subjects such as Spreadsheet Applications for business, Data Modeling and Visualization and Business Intelligence and Data Mining. Dr. Sahi took a hands-on session titled ‘Using Excel for data entry and data analysis.’ She demonstrated how Excel as a software was extremely broad and entailed features that teachers could use as part of their daily work. This session was organised in the computer lab of college.

Overall all the sessions were engaging and informative. The day ended with a vote of thanks to the facilitators and expression of gratitude to all participants on behalf of the IQAC-LSR team.
