Course Offered: B.A (Honours) Psychology
The Psychology Department endeavours to prepare students for their professional journeys in the dynamic, diverse and ever-growing field of Psychology. Students learn about the history of the discipline, its theoretical foundations and its numerous branches including Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Child Development, Bio-psychology and Human Resource Management. Emphasis is placed on fostering in students the skills and attitudes needed to be competent and socially sensitive psychologists including a self-reflexive attitude, critical thinking, empathy and a respect for individual differences. The Department encourages an atmosphere of debate and discussion while nurturing in young minds, an appreciation of new and varied perspectives on forces that interact to shape the human psyche.
Given the application based nature of psychology, theoretical papers are accompanied by a variety of robust practicum papers for training students in different forms of assessment and research. Contemporary and classic psychological researches which form the backbone of the discipline are an integral part of classroom interactions. Pedagogical techniques include field visits, case study analyses and extensive use of audio-visual mediums.
Students of the Department go on to successfully pursue various kinds of careers after graduation. Those who enter the fields of counselling and psychotherapy work in settings as varied as schools, clinics, hospitals and non-government organizations. Several former students enjoy gratifying careers in the corporate world while others have moved into realms such as teaching, advertising, media, theatre and law.
Lectures and Talks
Several lectures were organised on psychologically relevant themes. Psychotherapist, Ms. Roopali Das, was invited to speak on ‘Counselling from a Consciousness Perspective’ (17 September 2025). College counsellor, Dr. Jaya Mohan, addressed the students in a session titled ‘Suicide and Self-Harm Prevention’ (18 September 2025). The Books, Documentary and Media club invited Dr. Wafa Hamid to speak on ‘Unruly bodies, female malady and literary resistance’ (25 September 2025). Several eminent speakers visited LSR during the Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW, 12–17 October 2025), based on the theme of ‘Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.’ The experts included Prof. Renu Addlakha, Prof. Poonam Batra, Prof. Namita Ranganathan and CBT practitioner, Dr. Nimisha Kumar, who underscored the importance of accessible mental health services in times of crisis.

The Peer Support Program team organised a session on ‘Society, Stress and You’ with psychiatrist, Dr Arnab Bhattacharya (8 November). Some other talks organised were ‘Writing the self: Reflections on Autoethnography’ (Dr. Khyati Tripathi, 30 October 2025) ‘Invisibility and visibility in disability’ (Dr. Saili Kulkarni, 16 January 2026), ‘Inclusion as a lived experience’ (Senior Vice-President, Sustainability & ESG, Lemon Tree Hotels, Aradhana Lal, 19 March 2026) and ‘Living with Bipolar Disorder’ (film-maker Promita Banerjee, 2 April 2026).

Academic Conference

The Annual Conference Zeitgeist was titled ‘Harnessing AI as a Tool for Mental Well-Being’ (26 February 2026). The conference commenced with the keynote address by renowned psychiatrist Dr. Sameer Malhotra (Max Hospitals). This was followed by interactions with Dr. Suyash Shendye (LimbiQ Centre for Psychiatry and Child Development) on online therapy skills and Dr. Amit Sen (Children First) on the impact of digital media on children. A student-led panel explored the role of AI in increasing equitable mental health care. Other student-driven events included the Neural Knockout Quiz and a case competition. The conference theme was also explored through the screening of the film ‘Ava’ and an exhibition titled ‘Phir Le Aaya Dil’.
Other Association Highlights
The department organised a 3-workshop series ‘Recognise, Regulate and Relate: A Trauma- Informed Series for Peer Support’ with the Humraahi group (27, 28 August, 4 September 2025). Narrative therapy practitioner Shivangi Anil conducted a Disability Affirmative Therapy workshop (6 September 2025).

During MHAW, students conducted the workshop ‘Mazbooti and Madad’ for children at Prajna, an NGO focused on developing resilience among underserved youth. Later, the department hosted Dr. Amrita Pain, Psychologist, IBHAS, for a training session of peer supporters (1 November 2025), Ms Snigdha Sharma, Director, All Women Foundation of Deaf Women, for workshops on sign language (13 November 2025, 30th January 2026) and psychologist Aastha Bansal for a workshop on emotional regulation (9 April 2026). A notable event was the National Seminar on Psychological Research by the department’s Research Circle (15 January 2026).A total of 38 teams registered for paper presentations, among which 9 were shortlisted to showcase their research.

The Learning Curve is the National Journal of the Department of Psychology, Lady Shri Ram College for Women. It is a peer-reviewed, annual academic journal accredited with an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN 2321-7057).
Established in 2012, the journal comprises a reputed editorial advisory board as well as expert reviewers. In the past, the journal has received papers from researchers within and outside India, having varying professional backgrounds but a shared zeal for research. Continuing the tradition, The Learning Curve annually invites students, researchers, graduates, postgraduates and working professionals to submit their conceptual, theoretical and empirical investigations pertaining to Psychology and affiliated fields. The journal explores various themes such as Applied Psychology, Neuropsychology, Stress and Well-being, Emotions, and Cognition, along with Trauma, Resilience, Addiction, Spirituality, Gender, and Developmental Psychology, among others. The Learning Curve aims to provide a dynamic platform for researchers to present their research work that brings out a novel and significant perspective of looking at psychological issues of concern. It hopes that the papers in the journal will take the field of psychology in unexplored directions and uncharted terrains.
