LSR’s well-equipped and efficiently maintained Library with a computerized user-friendly data filing system, functions as an invaluable aid to every aspiring scholar. The Library employs the LIBSYS computerized library management system and several terminals are provided for students and faculty members to search for books/research material online. The library presently boasts of an impressive stock of over one lakh books, including many written by LSR faculty members and alumna. New books are added to the library through the course of each academic year. It also subscribes to a range of more than 150 national and international journals, making it one of the largest selections in the University of Delhi.

The general library with its open-rack system, spacious reading room and reference section provides an atmosphere conducive to academic work. The library offers audio and video facilities for visually challenged students as well.

The Library staff is always available to assist students in finding material needed for their course work and other related pursuits.

Web Junction
Internet access is provided free of cost to all students and faculty members at the Web Junction in the library. Several terminals have been added in the general and reference sections to provide Internet access and connect to the Delhi University network with access to the DU library database.

The library aims to empower the teaching mission and intellectual culture of the Lady Shri Ram College community through availability of an organized and broad array of quality resources which are accessible and relevant. It seeks to nurture the budding scholars and to instill confidence in navigating the increasing volume of information across a constantly evolving range of formats.

About College Library:

LSR has one of the largest libraries in terms of space and collection in Delhi University. The library provides impetus to library services with the introduction of new and modern ICT infrastructure. It is connected with Delhi University campus networking system and provides access to electronic resources from Delhi University Library System (DULS) and UGC-INFONET Consortium. The library is also subscribed to NLIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content), which provides access to e-resources to its members. The library provides various services such as reference service, circulation service, question bank, syllabus bank, Audio service for visually challenged persons, book bank service, and open access to book shelves. The library is computerized and books are bar-coded and made easily accessible through OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Every year an orientation programme is conducted at the commencement of new academic session to familiarise students with the library services and resources.

DELNET: These resources are freely available on Internet and it can be accessed at any time and from anywhere. These resources are divided into following categories.

Library Software:

  • It is fully automated with integrated open source software KOHA and utilizes information of Books and Journal to ensure that resources are easily accessible.
  • OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue): The library has fully computerized its most actively used collection, which is searchable through OPAC, the computer catalogue. OPAC is extremely user-friendly and enables searches to be conducted with ease and speed. The OPAC allows search by author, title, subject, call number, keywords, and Boolean search. The Call Number indicates the location of the book on the self. It also gives the availability status of resources, indicating whether a particular resource is available or on loan.

COLLECTION:

With its rapidly growing collection, both in digital and print form, the Library is utilising state of the art facilities to contribute to the College’s academic mission of becoming a world-class Learning Resource Centre. The collection of the Library is rich and diverse, especially in terms of the breadth and depth of coverage. The library has a massive collection of around one lakh and fifty thousand books on social sciences, covering disciplines like Political Science, History, Sociology, Philosophy, Economics, Literature, Education, Mathematics, Statistics, Commerce, Journalism and Languages (Sanskrit, Hindi, English, Urdu). It also includes resources on specialized areas like Gandhian and Women’s Studies, among others.

The library is committed to providing the highest quality core collection. Its collection development policy is thoughtfully formulated with the College and its department’s strategic plans in mind. It is closely aligned to the general and specific requirements of the college, as well as  the information needs of the users.

RULES OF THE LIBRARY:

  • The Students must carry the Library Smart Card to get the books issued /returned.
  • The loss of Library Card should be immediately reported to the college Library, so that a duplicate card may be issued.
  • Library Membership card is not transferable.
  • The members cannot get issued more than five books at a time.
  • The students who are enrolled as member in other libraries on the recommendation of the college library are required to get the clearance from the concerned library before the final examination of University of Delhi.
  • Members are requested to check the condition of the book before getting issued. Any damage found in the books taken out for reading or borrowing should be brought to the notice of the Library staff on Circulation duty before getting issued.
  • Loss of any borrowed book must be reported immediately to the Librarian/Library Staff. The member must replace the lost book / cost of the books as per rule.
  • Bags, personal belongings and personal books are not allowed inside the library. These must be kept at the property counter.
  • While leaving the library, members are required to show their files, file covers, books etc. to the Library Staff on duty at the check – point.
  • Eating, sleeping and smoking are not allowed in the Library.
  • Readers should observe absolute silence and switch off their Mobile phones in the Library premises.
  • Books and other reading material borrowed from the Library are liable to be recalled, at any time, and shall be returned within seven days from the date of recall or earlier, if necessary.
  • In case of loss of Token of property counter, the new token may be issued to the readers by depositing Rs. 50/-. The property counter is for the students bags containing only the books. They should not keep their other valuables / belongings in property counters such as purse, calculators, mobiles, laptops etc.
  • Marking, scratching, damaging, mutilating, stealing, library materials or property will invite disciplinary action against the defaulters.

Library Membership:

All bonafide students of LSR, teaching, non-teaching and other members of the staff of the college are entitled to become members of the library. To become a member of library, bonafide students should fill out a form available with the Library Office. The registered members are issued Library Card corresponding to their entitlement.
Students are required to keep their Identity Cards with them for inspection whenever they visit the library. Library staff is authorized to request the students to show the same at any time. Serious actions are taken against unauthorized entrants. The Library members have following entitlements:

The books from Text Books Section can be borrowed for 14 days only. An overdue fine of Rs. 2/- per day will be charged if the books are kept above overdue period.
Clearance Certificate:

  • Library books are the property of the library. Before taking the final University Examination or termination connection with the college, it is the responsibility of each and every member to return all library books, to settle all the library dues if any.
  • At the time of getting their library clearance, the students are required to bring their Identity – Card.
  • For getting clearance from the college library, final year post graduate and under-graduate students are also required to bring No-Dues certificates from those library/libraries for which their membership was recommended by the college library.
  • Those students, who due to any reason, do not appear in their respective examination or are declared failed in the same are required to surrender their library membership so that the same not be misused. After surrendering their membership, such students get library clearance.

N-LIST Programme:
The college library has subscribed to NLIST Programme (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for scholarly content). It provides the library users an extended access to e-resources of colleges in India. These resources are accessible through NLIST website http://nlist.inflibnet.ac.in/
