Dr Suman Sharma, Principal Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi who completed 5-year tenure on March 2, 2020 gets an extension of a second tenure of 5-years. This is the first such case in Delhi University for a second term extension under a new dispensation notified by the University Grants Commission in July 2018. These new regulations notified by UGC prescribe minimum qualifications for appointment of teachers and other academic staff in Colleges and Universities as well as measures for maintenance of standards in higher education.
This new system of term appointment of Principals in University Colleges as per UGC regulations is intended to improve quality of College administration and reward good performers with a second term of 5-years after requisite performance assessment. Dr Sharma was subjected to a peer review by a Performance Assessment Committee and further screening by a Committee under the Chairmanship of Dean of Colleges.
Significantly, performance record of Lady Shri Ram College during last five years includes first ever National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) evaluation and a high score of 3.61 on a scale of 4 and a very impressive improvement of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking from 9th to 5th during 2018-2019. In addition, LSR entered into six new international exchange programmes. In addition to University, she has been nominated in number of Committees of the UGC and NAAC. She is a member of NAAC General Council.
