On Monday, 18th April, the National Service Scheme of Lady Shri Ram College for Women organized a Sign Language Workshop in collaboration with the All India Foundation of Deaf.
The workshop, held in Room 203 from 11:45 AM to 1:30 PM, saw enthusiastic participation across NSS projects functioning in diverse areas of intervention. The workshop began with an insightful introduction by the speakers from the All India Foundation of Deaf Women. They shared the organization’s history and the inspiring narratives that led to its establishment. Emphasizing the profound significance of sign
language, they portrayed it as more than just a means of communication; rather, it is a bridge of inclusion, understanding, and empathy.
The session progressed into an interactive discussion between the speakers and the volunteers. Participants shared personal experiences of having loved ones who were deaf, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the community.
Following this, the workshop transitioned into teaching basic hand movements for sign language communication. The speakers demonstrated these movements and encouraged the volunteers to practice them. Through this engaging session, participants acquired practical skills in sign language and learned how to communicate using basic signs.
The workshop concluded with a heartfelt message from the organizers, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and empathy in building a more understanding society. It served as a reminder that sign language is not just a tool for communication but a vital link that
connects us all.
