Faculty Development Workshop on Publishing and Career Advancement by IQAC

8 August 2026

A Faculty Development Workshop was organised by the IQAC at Lady Shri Ram College for Women on 8 August 2026, titled “Publishing Excellence: A Guide to Selecting Quality Journals”. The workshop aimed to familiarize faculty members with the requirements for career advancement and promotion, while also raising awareness of responsible and ethical academic publishing.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Mukesh Mehlawat, coordinator, IQAC, University of Delhi, and Ms. Meenakshi Sahai, Joint Registrar, University of Delhi. The resource persons brought valuable expertise and practical insights into the processes associated with faculty promotions and academic publishing. The first part of the workshop, conducted by Ms. Sahai, focused on the eligibility criteria and requirements for faculty promotions under CAS 2010 and CAS 2018.

Subsequently, Dr. Mukesh Mehlawat provided an in-depth and highly informative session on identifying authentic, reputable academic journals.

He explained the importance of verifying journals/articles through recognised databases such as Scopus and Web of Science and discussed ways in which researchers can assess the credibility of journals before submitting their work. Particular emphasis was placed on being alert to predatory journals and clone journals, which publish material more for commercial gain and academic growth. The practical nature of the session made it especially relevant to faculty members who raised several queries relating to publication requirements, journal selection, and indexing. The resource persons responded to the queries and provided useful guidance, making the workshop highly participatory. Overall, the workshop was extremely informative and well received. The College looks forward to organising more such initiatives that address emerging professional needs of its faculty members.
