On 28 April 2026 Lady Shri Ram College for Women marked its Annual Day, as it completed 70 years, with two ceremonial functions, a morning assembly and an evening gala, bringing together students, faculty, distinguished guests, and alumni to celebrate academic and co-curricular excellence. The Chief Guest of the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University Prof. Yogesh Singh recalled the contribution of Sir Shri Ram for his landmark contribution in women’s education in the country. He mentioned the college motto “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye”, derived from the Vishnu Purana, to be a very crucial part of the college’s principles, which directly translates into “That is knowledge which liberates”. He also emphasized on the importance of entrepreneurship to achieve the 2047 goal for making India a developed economy. Ms. Geetanjali Shree, novelist, LSR alumna (History, 1976), and India’s first International Booker Prize winner (2022) for her book Ret Samadhi (Tomb of Sand), was conferred with the Distinguished Alumna Award at the occasion in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to world literature.
Principal Prof. Kanika K. Ahuja delivered the welcome address and annual report, opening with a reflection on LSR’s seven decades of legacy and the enduring vision of Sir Shri Ram, “education for women, education for more women, and more education for more women.”
Highlights from the annual report included 38 Scopus-indexed publications by faculty, 35 faculty promotions (12 to the rank of Professor), 78 MoUs signed with companies and NGOs, and internships provided to nearly 600 students. The college disbursed approximately Rs. 1.5 crore in scholarships and fee waivers to nearly 1,700 students. The college also became one of the first DU colleges to appoint a full-time counsellor and conducted its first disability audit.
On the global stage, LSR students won accolades at the Asian Undergraduate Symposium at NUS and participated in Harvard University’s largest annual student conference in Tokyo. The Placement Cell facilitated over 170 offers from more than 100 companies, with the highest package at Rs. 36.25 LPA. She highlighted that LSR also bagged the prestigious Green Cup for the cleanest and greenest campus for the 29th consecutive year.
Mr. Arun Bharat Ram, Chairman of the Governing Body, also addressed the occasion, sharing his views on LSR’s multiple milestones. A prize distribution ceremony for academic and co-curricular achievers followed, along with a vote of thanks by the President of the Students’ Union and a cultural programme by students. Proceedings concluded with the National Anthem.
The evening function commenced with the College Song and College Prayer. Prof. Ahuja again delivered the welcome address and annual report. The Chief Guest for the evening was Ms. Anu Garg, IAS, Chief Secretary of Odisha- herself an alumna of LSR (Psychology, Batch of 1989), who was felicitated before delivering her address. Her distinguished career in civil service stands as a powerful example of what LSR’s values of leadership and social responsibility can produce.
The evening included faculty awards recognising outstanding staff contributions, college prizes for internal distinctions, and academic prizes for University results. College Colours were awarded to students who excelled in co-curricular and extracurricular spheres, and merit certificates were distributed. Students presented two segments of a cultural programme across the evening, and college publications were formally released. The vote of thanks concluded the formal proceedings.
