The LSR chapter of SPICMACAY launched its cultural season 2025-26 with an electrifying Kathakali recital by maestro Thiruvattar B. Jagadeesan and his team on October 9th. The programme commenced with a warm welcome, followed by the auspicious lighting of the lamp and an inspiring address by the Principal. After the felicitation of the esteemed artists and faculty, a lucid introduction by one of the artist’s students set the stage for the main performance.
Shri Jagadeesh Ji, recipient of the prestigious Senior Fellowship from the Government of India’s Department of Culture, captivated the audience with his insightful guidance and mastery over both the southern and northern styles of Kathakali. Under his guidance, the session began with a mudra abhinaya, where his students presented intricate hand gestures, inviting the audience to try a few themselves. This was followed by a graceful depiction of the Nava Rasas and expressive vyaṅgya abhinaya (enactments) of characters from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. The presentation concluded with a Kathakali padam, leaving the audience enthralled.
The event was a resounding success, reaffirming the college’s commitment to bringing world-class artistic experiences to its community. The venue was packed to capacity, with an enthusiastic audience that included senior secondary students from Bluebells International School. The students were especially interactive showing keen interest in the gestures and storytelling elements of Kathakali, which added to the vibrancy and immersive spirit of the event.
