The Department of Psychology successfully hosted its annual academic meet, Zeitgeist titled Harnessing AI as a Tool for Mental Well-Being, on 26 February 2026. The Meet featured various distinguished experts who explored how technology can bridge the gap in mental health care services. In the keynote address, Dr. Sameer Malhotra (Psychiatrist, Max Healthcare) provided insights into the clinical integration of AI, touching on diagnostic precision and data-driven treatment plans. Dr. Suyash Shendye and Ms. Aastha Bansal (from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital) offered a perspective on online therapy. Dr. Amit Sen (Founder, Children First) spoke on digital spaces and their impact on children and adolescents.
Other events involved a Student Panel Discussion on using AI to increase equitable access to mental health care, and a documentary screening cum discussion moderated by Dr. Wafa Hamid (Assistant Professor, Department of English, LSR).
The Meet balanced rigor with vibrancy through various Student Competitions and Cultural Performances, showcasing the multifaceted talents of the department. The consensus among the experts highlighted that while AI cannot replace the “human touch” essential to psychology, it serves as a powerful force support system—improving accessibility, and providing clinicians with better tools for diagnosis and intervention.
