The Western Music Society

The Western Music Society (WMS) is a very active society of LSR. Specializing in acapella music, we cover several genres of music, from jazz to pop, R&B, soul and many others. Our in-house team is active in all college functions, participating in full zeal. Outside of college, WMS strives to participate in inter-college competitions. We also encourage students to participate in workshops to increase their musical knowledge and expand not just as a choir but as individual musicians as well.

The Western Music Society of Lady Shri Ram College, being one of the leading teams in the Delhi University Western Music Circuit, WMS is known for its experimentation with intricate harmonies and dynamics in genres such as Gospel, R&B, Jazz, and more. The society’s mission is to promote musical endeavors within and outside the college. The year 2022-23 began with a Monsoon-themed cultural performance for NAAC on July 13, 2022, setting the tone for a year of success. On September 27, 2022, the society organized a successful vocal training workshop with Mr Sociphem Kashak. The team emerged victorious at the Delhi prelims of IIT Bombay, ‘Mood Indigo’ on October 16, 2022, and BITS Pilani on November 22, 2023.

The society successfully hosted its signature music event, ‘Hysteria,’ under Tarang 2023. For the annual production of 2022-23, WMS arranged a competitive piece that included a complex classical arrangement titled “Leonardo Dreams of Flying Machine” by Eric Whitacre, followed by “Gloves Up” by Little Mix, and an arrangement of “Judas and Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga. The society enthusiastically participated in the DU fest season from February 2023 onwards with this piece.

The Western Music Society is recognized as one of the pre-eminent teams of the Delhi University western music circuit. The group is known for introducing complex technicalities and genres such as Western Classical, Jazz, Gospel and R&B among several other genres in competitive and non-competitive levels. The society has experimented with different styles and has brought all these into the annual arrangement.
