Department of Elementary Education Lady Shri Ram College for Women
The Department of Elementary Education, Lady Shri Ram College for women organized their Annual academic meet: Sehar on March 25, 2022. It was organized in collaboration with the internal quality assurance cell (IQAC). The theme for Sehar, 2022 was NEP, 2020: Tagore’s Vision on Education. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Prof. Suman Sharma and Prof. Bidyut Chakrabarty, Vice chancellor of Vishva Bharati university, Santiniketan was the keynote speaker of the event.
He gave us deep insights into the philosophy of Tagore for education. Most of the policies on education in our country have drawn inspiration from the ideas of Rabindranath Tagore and NEP 2020 is no exception. The significance of mother tongue education in the education policy and three-language formula are interconnected to Tagore’s philosophy of mother tongue as medium of instruction, multilingualism and the power of language. NEP 2020 focuses on integrated and holistic learning with no clear demarcations between subjects and Shantiniketan can be seen as a practical application of this idea where an integrated approach to science, arts and music is practised.
Tagore stood for the development of a free mind, free knowledge and free nation and its corollary is the development of critical thinkers that NEP 2020 outlines. Tagore’s emphasis on learning by exploration of nature to make education a symphony between one’s life and the outside is interconnected to the experiential that NEP 2020 envisions. Rabindranath Tagore was a visionary who tried revolutionising the Indian Education System.
Shantiniketan and Vishwa Bharti are both based on his educational principles. “The highest education is that which does not merely give us information, but makes our life in harmony with all existence”. This quote by Rabindranath Tagore sums up his educational philosophy.
The keynote address was followed by three students’ activities. Students from across the eight colleges with B.El.Ed department in university of Delhi participated in the activities.
