Launch of “Himmat Plus App” at LSR College in collaboration with Delhi Police

On  22nd February 2018, LSR College for Women in collaboration with the Delhi Police held a function launching the “Himmat Plus” App and “QR Coded” Public Transport Program. The function was attended by students and faculty of LSR College, along with students of NIFT and Jijabai Polytechnic. Several police dignitaries were present for the event. The Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Sh. Amulya Patnaik was the Chief Guest at this momentous occasion. The Guest of Honor for the function was Sh. P. Kamaraj, Special Commissioner of Police, Law & Order, South Zone. The event also saw the participation of the heads of various policing units like Women Safety & Modernization, Traffic and Training.

The function began with the lighting of the traditional lamp and welcome address by Dr. Suman Sharma, the Principal of LSR College. Welcoming the Police Commissioner, the Principal said that it was incumbent upon all members of the society to popularize the massive efforts being undertaken by the Delhi Police to ensure a city safe for women. The Principal also informed the audience about the various women centric initiatives which have become a signature of the functioning of the Police Commissioner like “Pratidhi”, “Sashakti” etc. This was followed by presentation of a melodious rendition of the LSR song by students. After the song, a short film, an in-house production of LSR College was screened which emphatically conveyed the message that ‘The Change Starts Here; It Starts With Me’. Poetry recited by a student called for having an “App” for safety of women.

The applause for the brilliantly shot and composed film was followed by the screening of the publicity film made by Delhi Police on the “Himmat Plus App” and “QR Coded” Public Transport Program. This film showcased the unique features and utilities of the thoroughly user friendly App. After the film, DCP, SPUWAC Isha Pandey encouraged the audience to enroll in the soon to begin self defence training program at the College, being organized by South East District Police and realize their inherent strength. Thereafter, the much acclaimed short film on “Sashakti”, Delhi Police’s self defence training program, was screened. All the film shots wherein trained and empowered girls and ladies were shown repelling and neutralizing criminals like chain/purse snatchers, eve teasers, pickpockets etc. were met with loud cheers and admiration.

With the audio-visual components of the event being over, the anchor invited the Chief Guest, Sh. Amulya Patnaik, the Principal and senior police officers on the stage where the customary felicitations were carried out. The Police Commissioner and senior police officers were presented with ‘anga-vastram’ or stoles along with flower pots by the Principal and faculty members of LSR College. The Commissioner of Police also presented a memorial plaque to the Principal and the Cultural Troupe of the college.

This was followed by the keynote address by the Commissioner of Police who made a passionate appeal to the audience to download vigorously, use and further propagate the new “Himmat Plus App” and the “QR Coded” Public Transport Program which was designed for the safety and security of women with a lot of efforts. He thanked the LSR College for Women administration to collaborate with the Delhi Police to carry forward it’s campaign towards women safety.

The function ended with a Vote of Thanks delivered by faculty of LSR College and refreshments.
