Important Notification Regarding LSR Hostel

  • Since July 2019, the Hostel has been available to first-year students only. This is a well documented change in Hostel policy that has been in the public domain since middle of 2019 for the implementation of OBC reservations in the Hostel. There was no way in which LSRH could continue to be a Hostel for three years and also implement OBC reservation. With the Hostel envisaged as a first year hostel only, about 60 girls would be accommodated from the OBC category finally. Increasing the number of beds in the existing Hostel (an old building) or building a new Hostel was not immediately possible (lack of funds), the College administration felt that this was the only way to make the Hostel more inclusive by implementing OBC reservations (and subsequently EWS reservations) and less exclusive by providing a cushioning effect to a much larger number of first-years, who need it the most. The decision did not impact the girls retrospectively.

  • Current second year students of LSRC, whose tenure in the Hostel finished in May 2020, and whose belongings were safely kept in the Hostel, free of charge, for five months, were asked to collect their belongings as soon as possible, preferably by 31st October. Subsequently the date was extended to 10th November and even beyond that for several students in genuine need.  Students were informed that they need not come themselves but could get their belongings collected by their LGs, relatives or even college friends. All mechanisms /options for students who are unable to come themselves due to the pandemic are mentioned in the letters.

These letters are available on the website.
Delhi University admissions for first year students began on the 12th of October and the hostel issued a letter to the current second year students on the 13th of October. Both these letters are also available on the LSR website. The Hostel rooms need to be cleaned, sanitized, painted and renovated and SOPs for COVID safety put in place for the incoming first-year students, a process that will take a few months.

  • The management and administration of college is looking at how we can help the girls during the pandemic by enhancing accommodation as a short term arrangement. We are also working on earmarking a few seats for some second and third year girls to be allotted on the basis of need. The process of removal of luggage has also been put on hold till further notice and a notice to this effect is up on the website.

  • In view of second wave of COVID-19 in the country and the difficulties expressed by second year students, the shifting of their belongings from Hostel rooms is postponed till further orders.
