Dr. Anugya

Dr. Anugya is a media scholar with over two decades of experience in the media industry, academics, and research. Her professional journey began in 2002. She has worked with some of the most respected names in the Indian print media landscape, including The Hindu, Hindustan Times and The Times of India. She has reported on various issues, including women’s social issues, education, finance, politics, science, art, and culture.  Being bilingual, she has also written for the Hindi Daily Hindustan and Hello Dilli, a supplement to the Hindi daily Navbharat Times.

Her industry experience has shaped her nuanced understanding of newsroom dynamics, editorial practices, and audience engagement, which she now integrates into her pedagogy and research. Known for her incisive media analysis and strong research acumen, Dr. Anugya has developed a scholarly focus on evolving trends in journalism, media literacy, and the socio-political role of mass communication in contemporary India. As an educator, she is committed to fostering critical thinking and ethical journalism among her students, preparing them to navigate and contribute meaningfully to the ever-evolving media ecosystem and in media research.

Industry (Newspapers - Journalism) Experience :

  • Reported on a wide range of events and activities for newspapers, supplements, tabloids, and online publications covering women’s issues, education, science, social issues, cultural events, religion, politics, finance, and academics.
  • Started career as a city reporter at The Hindu, INS (Indian Newspaper Society) building, New Delhi, in 2002. Under the guidance of Mr. Ashok Kalkur (chief reporter), I completed multifaceted duties that included reporting, news writing, and desk work for several events.
  • Worked in Hindustan Times and The Times of India, Patna edition, as a city reporter from May 2003 – Jun 2008. Reported on myriad topics, including women’s issues, social events, cultural activities, seminars, political events, educational matters, science, and the environment.  Delivered numerous stories related to the State Women’s Commission published in the regional and national editions of the newspaper.  Wrote about female representatives in Bihar’s Panchayati Raj system, highlighting their poor condition and getting the issue’s attention at the state and national levels. Also wrote several feature stories for Hindi Hindustan, Patna Edition during this period.
  • Wrote cover stories on various subjects and highlighted the condition of educational and health institutions that attracted the attention of the administration and government for Hello Delhi, a city supplement of the Hindi daily Navbharat Times, New Delhi. During this period, several news and feature articles on science, health and consumer awareness were also contributed to the Hindi daily Hindustan (Hindi Daily), New Delhi, in 2002 and 2003.
