Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi, reopened its Residence Hall after four years of extensive renovation on 1 August 2026, reaffirming its commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and student-centered residential experience. The reopening marks a significant milestone in strengthening campus infrastructure and enriching student life. The Residence Hall was inaugurated by Ms. Vasvi Bharat Ram, Member, Governing Body, in the presence of Prof. Kanika K. Ahuja, Principal, Dr. Ujjayini Ray, Hostel Warden, faculty members, staff, parents, and students.
The renovation was made possible through a generous contribution from the SRF Foundation. The project included roof waterproofing, complete reconstruction of seven bathroom blocks, and the air-conditioning of eighteen second-floor rooms, significantly enhancing the quality, comfort, and safety of the residential facilities. With these upgrades, the Residence Hall has reopened to accommodate approximately 150 first-year students in 100 rooms.
Welcoming the new hostellers, Prof. Kanika K. Ahuja said, “Today is a day of homecoming. After four long years, these walls are alive again. This hostel, which once stood quiet, has been renovated, refreshed, and reopened—not just with paint and furniture, but with purpose.” She encouraged students to embrace the Residence Hall as a home built on care, empathy, and mutual respect, emphasising the importance of supporting one another through homesickness, celebrations, learning, and sisterhood.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Vasvi Bharat Ram said, “Hostel is a place where strangers become roommates, roommates become friends, friends become family”. Students welcomed the reopening with enthusiasm, with one resident sharing, “This upgrade reflects the College’s investment in our future. Living here inspires us to aim higher and make the most of campus life.”
An interaction with parents and hostellers was held over lunch to familiarise families with the ethos and values of the LSR Residence Hall and to introduce them to the supportive residential environment that will shape students’ campus experience. The ceremony concluded with a guided tour of the renovated Residence Hall, during which guests viewed the upgraded facilities and interacted with students, parents, faculty, and staff. As students begin this new chapter, the Residence Hall once again stands as a vibrant home for learning, friendship, leadership, and personal growth, reflecting Lady Shri Ram College’s enduring vision of empowering young women to learn, lead, and flourish.
