Lady Shri Ram College for Women in partnership with GreenEcolink Private Limited seeks to promote environmental sustainability and generate awareness for electronic-waste among students. E-waste, which includes discarded electronic items such as phones, laptops, chargers, and televisions, pose serious environmental and health risks due to the presence of toxic materials and improper disposal practices. Prakriti- The Environment Society of LSR under the guidance of its coordinators Prof. Tripti Bassi and Dr. Sonali Mishra collaborated with GreenEcolink to install ‘Red Bins’ on 6th February, 2026 to encourage students to responsibly dispose of their electronic waste (e-waste). Our Principal, Prof. Kanika K. Ahuja emphasized on the significance of this initiative and motivated us to undertake this endeavour.
In India, where e-waste generation is among the highest globally, a significant gap exists in awareness and safe recycling methods. Students deposit items such as old or non-functional mobile phones, chargers, batteries and other electronic accessories into these designated bins.
Through this practical and responsible approach, the purpose is to tackle the growing problem of e-waste within institutions. LSR’s collaboration with GreenEcolink offers a structured and sustainable alternative by ensuring that e-waste is handled by authorized recyclers using certified and safe processes.
Through awareness drives, designated collection systems, and convenient doorstep pickup services, the initiative encourages students to actively participate in responsible disposal. Moreover, it promotes the recovery of valuable resources and supports the idea of a circular economy. By integrating such practices within LSR, students and staff collectively contribute to a cleaner environment while fostering a culture of sustainability and accountability. This initiative ensures that e-waste is collected systematically and directed towards proper recycling and disposal processes, thereby reducing environmental hazards. Furthermore, it plays a significant role in raising awareness among students about the importance of responsible waste management.
