IQAC & English Department LSR is organising a discussion on "Why we Need Libraries" with Purnima Rao, a trustee and volunteer at The Community Library Project that builds and operates free libraries across Delhi. An LSR alumna, she is also a creative director and screen-writer who most recently spoke about the library movement at Habitat's Samanvay Literature festival.
IQAC & English Department LSR is organising a discussion on "Feminist Poetics as a Method for the Humanities" with Brinda Bose, an Associate Professor at the Centre for English Studies, SLL & CS, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her areas of interest include Post-Colonial Writings, Cultural Studies in India/South Asia.
Orientation Day for Freshers at LSR

The new academic session began at LSR with a warm welcome to all the first year students through an orientation program held in the college auditorium on 20th July, 2019. The first year students were present in large numbers, keenly soaking in the ambiance of college. The program began with the college prayer.
A Journey of Grit : Screening of ‘Tarini’ at LSR College
On the 6th of March, 2019, Lady Shriram College for Women had the proud privilege of hosting a special screening of TARINI, a National Geographic production, documenting the first ever circumnavigation of the globe by six women officers of the Indian Navy. The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Lamba was the Guest of Honour. The screening of the movie was followed by an interactive session with the inspiring crew of Tarini. The crew also spent time with the NCC cadets of LSR.
The inspiring story of the 254-day maritime adventure
on-board INSV Tarini, a 55-foot sailing vessel, premiered on National Geographic on March 8, International Women’s Day.
The crew that accomplished this astounding feat included captain Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi , Lt Commanders Pratibha Jamwal and Swati P, and Lieutenants Aishwarya Boddapati, S Vijaya Devi and Payal Gupta. The women officers had trained under Captain Dilip Donde, the first Indian to circumnavigate the globe solo in 2009-2010.
Fourth Manohar Shyam Joshi Memorial Lecture at LSR
The fourth Manohar Shyam Joshi lecture was organised at LSR on the 9th of August, 2018. This series of lectures celebrates the life and work of Shri Manohar Shyam Joshi, great Hindi writer, journalist and scriptwriter. The speaker on this occasion was Ms. Mridula Garg. Her talk was titled ‘Manohar Shyam Joshi: Woh Jo Khud Doosra Tha’. Ms. Garg is one of the most widely read writers in the field of modern Hindi literature. She has been a columnist, writing on the environment, women's issues, child servitude and literature. Her lectures, papers and stories are compiled in various international magazines. The talk delivered by Ms. Garg threw light on Shri Joshi’s acumen as an author, his approach to his work and his personality. Several faculty members and students of the LSR community were present on the occasion. The talk was followed by refreshments for the participants.
Independence Day Celebrations at LSR
Lady Shri Ram College for Women celebrated India’s 72nd Independence Day with a spirit of respect for the sacrifices made in attaining freedom and a hope for a bright future for the nation. Celebrations began early in the day with Principal Dr Suman Sharma unfurling the tricolour followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Dr Sharma then addressed the NCC cadets of college and all others present. In her address Dr. Sharma discussed the multiplicity of meanings around the word ‘freedom’ and focused on the need to attain- freedom from poverty, discrimination and oppression. After the address everyone proceeded to the college auditorium for heart-warming cultural performances by various societies of the college.

Teacher’s Day celebration at LSR 2017
Teacher’s Day was celebrated with much joy and vigour at LSR on the 5th of September 2017. Various student societies paid tribute to their teachers with music and dance being integral parts of the celebration. The Instrumentalists, the Indian Music Society and the Western Music Society enthralled the audience with their melodies. The Dramatics Society enamoured us with its portrayal of some of the greatest teachers in human history who transformed the meaning of education. Elocution and Abhivyakti authentically re-created their teachers’ staff room musings. Their piece depicted the many emotions teachers feel- from dismay to delight- while engaging with the teaching process. Expressions screened a short film ‘To Student, With Love’ on how teachers and students are incomplete without one another. Three students presented a riveting collaboration using spoken word poetry and music. In addition, photo exhibitions were organised by Projekt and Hive society. The beautiful photographs captured the bonds students share with their teachers. At several points during the course of the celebrations, the Students’ Union expressed their gratitude for their teachers.
The Principal of LSR, Dr. Suman Sharma addressing the students and teachers said that teaching and learning is a shared experience and a two-way process. The mutual warmth and regard expressed on Teachers’s Day made it a memorable one for the entire college community.
