30 Principals, lecturers of Government Colleges along with Joint Director, Collegiate education department of Andhra Pradesh have visited Lady Shri Ram College for women on 6th January, 2016. They are visiting Delhi for a 5 days training program on leadership development organized by NUEPA for women administrators of Andhra Pradesh. This initiative was taken jointly by RUSA and NUEPA. As part of their training program, NUEPA organized visit to LSR today to study the governance of the college. The visit was facilitated by Prof. K. Sujata, Head, Dept. of Educational administration, NUEPA.
The principals have come from places like Guntur, Anantpur, Kakinada, Kurnool, Ongole, Vishakapatanam. The delegation was welcomed by Principal and Vice-Principal of LSR. The Principal, Dr. Suman Sharma made a very interesting presentation on the institutional framework and innovations in the college. She said “Women have a different perspective on all issues including governance. And therefore as Women leaders we have a lot to learn from each other about the innovation and best practices followed in each other’s institutions.”
She lauded the efforts of the teaching community and the innovative pedagogy of teaching. She highlighted the initiatives taken by the college for differently-abled students and efforts of the College towards inclusion. Being committed to the idea of excellence and equity, access and affirmation, LSR has always been sensitive to the needs for those persons that might have different requirements. All stairways and steps have railings. The college is wheel chair friendly. The special washroom with space to turn around and grab bars is a very important feature of the college. Notice boards that display notices in Braille and software that enable visually challenged students and faculty to read books and journals that are a part of the facilities in college were especially appreciated by the delegation.
The college has an especially dedicated resource centre called Swavalamban that houses state-of-art assistance for students and teachers who need help with reading. The presentation was followed by an interactive session. The women principals had several queries related to grants, fees structure, teaching methodologies followed in LSR, etc. The Principal Dr. Sharma addressed their queries and apprised about the structure and functioning of college and what made makes LSR into a unique institution and the best college of the Country. The delegation was given a guided tour of the college. The entire delegation was impressed by the ambience, facilities and hospitality of the college and thanked Principal for taking out time and for the warm hospitality.
