: Lady Shri Ram College for Women held its Annual Diwali Mela 'Noor'
, organized by National Service Scheme (NSS), LSR Chapter. The Mela was declared open by Vice Principal, Sanjay Roy Chaudhary followed by a cultural program. The highlights of the program were the dance and music performances of the children from the NGOs Swavalamban and Shanti Sahyog.
With the theme of ‘Dastagiri’ (which means 'to help’), the aim of the event was to merge creativity and social entrepreneurship. NGOs like Muskaan, Friendicoes, The Khushbu Project, etc. had set up stalls, making it a celebration with a cause.
The Mela in addition to having a variety of stalls included a Kid's Corner for the children of the many NGOs NSS LSR collaborates with. The kids corner was the most vibrant part of the mela - full of smiles and excitement. The members of LSR’s Dramatics Society had organized a short activity and interacted with the kids through an ice breaking session. This was followed by a magic show arranged especially for the children. The music in the Mela also got the feet of the little ones tapping and they rushed to the DJ corner. Tunes from various popular movies probably resonated with the energy and enthusiasm of the kids. The puppet show was the highlight of the kids corner. The Raindrops Foundation put up a wonderful show through famous cartoon characters. The session left the kids in splits. Running throughout the day were sessions like tattoo making, doodle wall and photo booth where kids could capture the delightful moments of a fun filled day. NSS LSR's effort to enlighten the lives of the underprivileged kids was successful for every child left with a smile and lots of memories to cherish.
In sync with the spirit of NSS, the Mela also gave priority to budding student entrepreneurs, having stalls by Enactus LSR, Enactus Ramjas, student bakers and so on.
The flash mob performed by the students of LSR added to the festive spirit that the mela represents every year.
Noor 2017 saw a great turnout and received a positive response from students, faculty and all those who attended the event. With the combined effort of the entire NSS family, the goal to make each successive Noor better and brighter was successfully achieved. We move forward with the firm belief that Noor’s legacy of illuminating all the lives it touches will continue for many years to come.
